MCRC’s scorecard grades each legislator on his or her floor votes on eight critical consumer rights votes during the 2012 regular session and the May special session. To shine a light on the decisions made by the powerful committees that mark-up key consumer bills, we’ve also given “committee scores” to the members of those committees based on their votes on a broader set of consumer concerns.

You can also download the scorecard in a page-by-page format that’s easy to read and print here

2012 Consumer Champions

Eighty legislators earned a spot on MCRC’s list of 2012 Consumer Champions with perfect scores on consumer rights votes this year.

Legislators earned those strong scores primarily by passing important new laws to protect Maryland consumers against foreclosures, tobacco addiction and identity theft this Spring. Yet the legislature’s overall record for 2012 was mixed, as important bills to limit unfair automatic renewal clauses in energy contracts, control fracking, protect auto dealers from unfair retribution, and take other key steps to protect consumers died quickly in key committees.

For more on the legislature's 2012 record, read our assessment of the 2012 session here.

But with the help of advocates like you, we’ll be back in 2013 to push our legislators to do more to help families save their homes, stop abusive auto sales practices, and stop financial predators.
